Favourite images of 2022

As a photojournalist, I take close to 100,000 images throughout the year, covering a wide range of subjects and events. Every year, I like to do a round-up of my favorite images, but it's always such a difficult task because there are so many to choose from. It's a testament to the variety and depth of my work as a photographer.

All the images are taken on the following cameras:

  • Canon R6

  • Canon R7

  • Fuji X100V

Antrim Coast Half Marathon

I was shooting video at this year's Antrim Coast Half Marathon for Stephen Reid, but I also took some still photos. One of the photos I captured was of a runner helping another runner who was struggling to cross the finish line. This photo received a lot of attention on my Facebook page, with over 1.4K likes. I believe it showcases good sportsmanship and the supportive nature of the running community.

King’s visit to Belfast

After the Queen's death, King Charles paid a visit to St. Anne's Cathedral in Belfast for a church service. As a member of the Scouts representing Co. Tyrone, I had the opportunity to meet the King alongside other Scouts from different counties. It was an incredible experience and I was able to capture a photo of him waving to the crowd and a video of him walking towards us, which quickly went viral on Instagram with over 4 million views in just a few days."

North Coast Surf

As a photographer, I always check the surf conditions during the winter at Trogg's Surf Shop in Portrush to see if there are any big wave days on the horizon. When the shop owner, Andy, describes the waves as "disco biscuits," I know it's going to be a good day for people to hit the water. I recently visited Portrush to capture the large surf and people braving the elements, and this is my favorite image from that day."

Iceland 2022

My trip to Iceland with Chasing Light Tours (led by Tyler Collins) was an unforgettable experience full of adventure and fun. On the last day, we were joined by photographer Mike Mez and headed to our final location, Reykjanes. This image is one of my favorites from the trip because of the way the light is hitting the cliffs, creating a glowing effect, and the long exposure of the water washing around the rocks. It truly captures the beauty and magic of Iceland.

Davy K - Oakfest 2022

One of my favorite music festivals to cover is Oakfest, held at Oakfield Park near Raphoe in County Donegal. This photo of Davy K from the Davy K Project perfectly captures the energy and rocker attitude he brings to the stage. His stance and overall look are pure rock and roll.

UCI Cyclo Cross World Cup Dublin

The UCI World Cup Dublin was an incredible opportunity to photograph some of the best Cyclo-Cross riders in the world, including some local legends. It was truly exciting to see them competing on such a prestigious stage

Jamie Donnelly at The Alley Theatre

Upcoming and brilliant local strabane singer Jamie Donnelly had her first gig in the alley theatre in Strabane the atmosphere and professionalism she created on the stage was amazing. The local turn out to support her was massive and she has a bright future a head as a singer

Sion Swifts Ladies - Foyle Cup

During the summer, I had the opportunity to follow the Sion Swifts Ladies football team during their campaign in the Foyle Cup. I accompanied them to the final, held at the Brandywell in Derry/Londonderry, where they faced off against Derry City. This group photo perfectly captures the pure joy and happiness of their victory in winning the cup.

Qween at Dergfest

Dergfest made a strong comeback this year with the addition of a big top, and one of my favorite performances at the festival was from Qween, a tribute band to Queen. The lead singer, who perfectly embodies the look and sound of Freddie Mercury, gave an incredible performance that truly felt like being at a Queen concert. This photo captures the intensity and energy of the band, and the pose of the lead singer is a perfect tribute to Freddie Mercury."

Woman’s Ireland vs Australia

Another highlight of the year was being commissioned by Cricket Ireland to photograph their One Day Internationals in Northern Ireland. This photo is one of my favorites from the Ireland vs. Australia match held at my local cricket grounds at Bready Cricket Club. It was an honor to be able to capture such an exciting and high-level sporting event, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of cricket in Northern Ireland.
