A bit of history and information about Jonny’s creative journey!

Ulster Image is open for business in all areas of creative media including promotional film, documentary, broadcast, press, PR and miscellaneous photography services. Below is our story.

The company was founded by professional photographer Jonny Collins. Ulster Image was rebranded from ‘Jcollins Productions’ in 2018 to make the firm more universal and easily recognisable.

It all started when…

Jonny took up the hobby of photography from a very young age and quickly went on to win an international photography competition; soon coming second in another. This sparked his love of creativity and he took up the art of videography, where he began to plan personal projects and gained a small client base over time.

In 2015 Jonny studied a Level 3 BTEC in Media. He then pursued a BSc Hons degree in Cinematic Arts at Ulster University, Magee. Here Jonny developed his skills, networked withindustry contacts and made some friends for life. His final year documentary on suicide prevention with Foyle Search and Rescue gained a lot of attention on social media and he knew he wanted to make a career out of photography and videography.

After graduating in 2018, Jonny was accepted onto a Masterscourse in International Journalism in Hostile Environment Reporting at Ulster University, Coleraine. It was the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and provided specialist hostile environment and security training to prepare journalists for conflict zones.

Since completing his MA Jonny has worked on assignments for many broadcasters in Northern Ireland, Ireland and the UK including:

• ITV

• Greenlight TV

• Eurosport

• Waddell Media

Ulster Image has also worked within the smaller regional areas of Derry and Tyrone as a press photo journalist, covering news, local entertainment and sporting events. Additionally Ulster Image is currently working in marketing and public relation photography with private clients, businesses and local councils.
